Fantastic Museums? - Field Trip

On September 16th, our hub (year 5&6) went on a field trip. We were going to the museum, even though it sounds boring it isn't!  I will explain and you will probably understand why it was fun.

When we walked inside the museum, we met some nice workers and they told us to wait for a person called Anthony. He finally came! When we were coming into the main entrance of the museum it looked really cool because the entrance was dark and there was like this mini cave that leads into a tunnel on a wall which goes around in circles.

Anthony told us a story about a taniwha and after that we looked at old fishing nets, weapons and cloaks that Maori people used. I also found a little picture of an extinct tree. Which was cool. We learnt about Maori technology and how they worked and made things. After that we were having our break time and then we had to follow Anthony again into this room that has things that are made from greenstone/pounamu which is greenstone in Maori. We did rotations for 3 minutes each. There was 6 or 5 rotations.

Rotation Activities:

  1. Hollowing wood with a greenstone axe.
  2. Using a old, traditional type of drill.
  3. Smoothing sandstone.
  4. Carving wood with greenstone.
  5. Re-drawing old paintings from the 1600 or 1500's.
  6. And last was making a fire with a stick and this piece of wood that has a hole in it
These are photos of me and my group doing the activities:

After that we had free time and we got to do anything in the museum with our groups. I took a view at arctic animals, extinct animals, fossils, giant crystals and quartz, looked at dinosaur bones, went through that dark mini cave at the entrance and studied other things that are related to history. And there was also a big tree and we were allowed to climb at lunchtime. Everyone was playing a game called 'the floor is lava'.

Question: What would you rather be doing: Going to the museum or being at school?

Enthusiastic Sport Games 2019!

On the 5th September 2019, we had fun sport activities run by the NZ Institute of Sport. The people who set up the activities were two people called Millie and Junior. We had to play separately from the Year Fives so we did it at a different time.

Our first game was Multi-Sport. Multi-Sport is when there are more than three different sports and two teams and the two teams play each other. If you're the referee then you have to call out a sport name (e.g basketball) and drop the ball of the sport you said in the court/field before calling out how many people you want to play. Then you have to count down from thirty seconds and when the time is up you say "stop" loudly, then the little mini-sport game finishes. Then after that you keep doing it again and again.

After that game we had to play Simon Says and I was one of the winners. But that game was to make us quiet. After that we played a game (it was pretty much was like training) where you had to tackle a thick cushion. Then they did a different course and put down cones. There was a tackle bag and we had to go around the cones. After the cones we had to catch a rugby ball and then tackle another thick cushion.

Next, we played a little obstacle course and we had to bean bag throw, balance, jump, hooler hoop, skip ropes, whip ropes into the ground, go through small tunnels and bounce this bouncy thingy.

Finally, the last game I wanted to do: Tug of War. There were four teams and we had to verse team four. We won against team four, then we went into semi-finals and we won again! After that we went into finals and we versed the winning team from the semi-finals from the Year Fives. We versed them and we bet the Year Fives and we became the champions!

Question: Which sport will you play?

Dinner Surprise? - Real Story

On 8th of September 2019, my family and mum's friends went over to a restaurant to have dinner.

The restaurant was called Five Stars and it was a Vietnamese restaurant. We were sitting at a table choosing our meals. Ten minutes later, all of our meals were ready.

After eating for five minutes my sister suddenly said, "hey look! It's the bishop and your school priests!" I thought she was lying but it was true. I saw Bishop Paul and four priests from our school.

I also saw a person from my school named Leo. He is a Year Four and he was with his whole family, and one of them was having a birthday.

I told my brother that the Bishop was here and so my brother went to say hello. The bishop and the priests were very surprised when they saw us. The bishop knew us well because my brother had to translate everything the Korean Church said when the bishop was there.

The bishop was thankful for my brother and he gave him a present (at the church). And that's how he knows us so well.

I saw Leo staring at me for a long time and it was kind of creepy. When I was eating he was still looking at me! So I did a 'what do you want' face, then he finally stopped looking! My mum and dad's friends were pulling confused faces at me.

After all of that I was so full it felt like my belly was going to explode! Then suddenly... dessert. Wooooow, giving us dessert at the worst timing. But it looked so good. It was a chocolate ice cream sundae. So I ate it. :)

Bishop and four priests that I know + my friend Leo = Big surprise.

Question: Do you think this is a big suprise or not?
