Top Team 2019!

On 22nd November, the year 5/6/7/8 had to take part in Top Team at the school backfield. Top Team is a sport company where we get to do about 12 sport rotations and including  water activities! We were split into 13 teams. I was in group 2. We had to gather points from each activity.

Our first activity was Water Bus. Water Bus is a sport where there is a huge bucket of water and we all got buckets. The person at the front had to fill their bucket then tip it over behind their back without looking to the other peoples bucket. This activity was the most wettest activity out of all the others.

Then we had to do another water activity where you have to fill a hollow pole. But there is holes so 3 people has to block the holes while the other 3 goes and fill it up. Which was a really wet activity too!

Next, we did an activity which does not include water (finally). We had to stack blocks versing another team. We had to see who can make the tallest tower. Sadly, we lost that battle, but it was pretty fun.

After that, we had to do a memory maze. I didn't understand any of it, so I just stepped in random blocks. Some people knew how to do it, so they told me what to do. If 1 person complete the maze then we get 10 points. Then the maze changes.

Following on onto this activity where its a human sized tic-tac-toe. After that we had to do a hula hoop throwing game, where you have to throw the hula hoop onto a stick. Then a human sized wheel and more!

It was a enthusiastic day, no one got injured and because it was very hot, nearly every 20 minutes I had to take a drink! Everyone was sweating just by standing, but at least we had a great day! My most favourite activity was the Water Bus and the one they was a my least favourite was the human sized wheel one. My highlight of Top Team was the pipe one, because When people poured water, they were pouring it all on me, which was fun!

Question: If you were at Top Team, would you like this experience? Yes or no?

Tough Kids! - 2019

On 20th November, Term 4, Year 3/4/5/6/7/8 did a race/competition called Tough Kids. Tough Kids is a race where lots of other schools race against each other.

We did obstacle courses while running. We were allowed to skip some of the obstacles. These are some of the obstacle courses.

  • Tire Temple - A place where you have to climb tires to get ot the other side.
  • Bubble Bath - You have to go in a lake and swim/run in it to get to shore.
  • Slip n Slide - If you don't know: it's a slippery mat (plastic) and it has bubble and water all over it where you can slip in it.
  • Mud Crawling - A place where you have to crawl in mud, a net keeps you down.

Letter Writing

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning to write both formal and informal letters. Here is an example of a letter I wrote about a political event in New Zealand's past.

Dear Members of Parliament

We have been protesting so women can vote. So far, we've got 10000+ signatures. All we want is a non-sexist country. Women should be able to vote. We need a fair country. Girls have the right to vote. It's time to make your choice.

Sincerely,

Korfball 2019!

On November 7th, our hub and the year 7&8 hub did korfball. So first, what is korfball? It sounds like a weird and interesting sport right? Well korfball is kind of like netball and basketball. This sport is pretty hard but fun.

Rules:

  • You can't dribble with the ball but you can pivot.
  • There is a line in the middle and there is an attacking and defending team on both sides.
  • Usually girls can only defend the girls and boys can only defend the boys. But we didn't do this rule.
  • You can't steal, snatch, or touch the ball when another person has the ball. So e.g. if you have the ball in your hands, you nca just pt you hand out while holding the ball, but no one can take it.
  • You can pass around and shoot, but, if a person is in front of you putting their hand up and if you shoot, the shot doesn't count.
  • You can't kick the ball or tohc it with your foot, or its a foot violation
  • There is usually 4 teams, 2 team on one side and 2 on the other.
The game is hard and fun. You can also intercept while its in mid-air. Luckily for us, it was a sunny day.

Question: Would you like to play Korfball? Yes or No?
