PBL Challenges

(None of these photos have me in it)
On the 21st and 22nd of August Term 3, we did challenges for innovation. We only got to use a newspaper and one metre of tape. We had three challenges which were probably 30-45 minutes each.

Our first challenge was to make a device that would catch a balloon and retrieve it. The balloon was three metres away from us and we couldn't move forward. My team (Gio and Dejon) couldn't retrieve the balloon but we managed to bounce the balloon with our device.

Our next challenge was to make formal clothes out of newspapers and ten metres of tape! We also added one more person into our group (Liam) and Gio left us. I was able to make a cape just in time and I also helped my friend Dejon to make a suit. But for this challenge we had to make two jackets, a skirt and a pair of trousers.

Finally our last challenge! We had to make another device with newspaper and one metre of tape. In this challenge we had to drop a marble and let it roll all the way until it passed the line or until it touched the can. Hitting the can equalled five points and passing the line was three points. Again, it was three metres away so we made a 1.5 metre device. Sadly we didn't pass the line because there was a little wall in our device so the marble couldn't get through.

Question: Out of all these challenges which one will you do?

Winter Sport Highlights 2019

The start of winter sport 2019. We fought hard A-graded teams and had to face the loss and the victory. I chose soccer for my winter sport choice because it's pretty much my favourite sport.

My team didn't win many games but at least we had amusing and competitive opponents. I think that I probably scored more than 15 goals this season. Lots of the other school sport uniforms were kind of the same as us but they had different colours. I think we have about 9 or 10 players in our team.

My top highlight for this year is probably when I scored 4 goals and won.

What I found challenging was being a goalkeeper because the teams we versed had strong kicks and sometimes the ball skimmed my hand or foot.

This is my soccer team and I'm the one in the middle, at the top.

Everyone in my team at least scored one goal. What I found enjoyable was when I got to skill some opponents or everyone.

Positions I played on the field: Goalkeeper, defender, mid-fielder and striker.

People who don't know what skilling is: Skilling is when you kind-of-dodge and at the same time dribble around the opponent.

Improvement on the basics:  I got better at skilling, shot accuracy and I got faster at sprinting.

What I found new:
Nothing and I also got better at throw ins. (Search up throw ins soccer if you don't know).

Question: What Winter Sport do you play?

Writing Sample (The Bush)

The Bush

Me and my family, walking in the green, fresh forest. Taking photos of long palm leaves and inhaling the fresh air while the sound of waterfalls makes me close my eyes. Fog is everywhere, it feels like I’m touching a bouncy, soft cloud. Everytime I open my eyes it feels like I’m seeing the meaning of life. Nature is everywhere around me, waving tree sounds flowing into my ear, birds whistling nature’s music which is bouncing around in my head, I can’t forget about that whistle. Leaning trees making me feel scared, I keep dreaming that those leaning trees are touching my head. Everytime I look up in the sky, all I see is the colour of the ocean glistening from the sun. I stick my tongue out and I can feel the fog automatically going into my lungs, which made me feel so refreshed.

I was just walking on the rocky footpath then suddenly I tripped from a pointy rock and fell on a bush. That bush sucked me into the ground and I called help. My brother tried to pull me up and I just made it out before my head was beneath the ground. I didn’t get damp from the ground, no mud, just a speck of dirt on my hand. Now I was really scared, praying that event will never happen again then after that, I went calm. My brothers walking stick kept poking my shoes.

The rocky path has been making scrunching noises every time I walk on rolled-up dry leaves. Walking up and down on bumpy hills, which has been tiring until we finally took a brake on a wooden bench. I’m drinking a water bottle making gulping sounds because I’m so relieved. I see tourists with big grey bags and they’re getting the same feeling as me. I grabbed a long, dead stick and used it as my walking stick. I see a teacher teaching her students what type of plant they are looking at. I take another rest, swallowing water which felt like drinking from the fountain of youth.

We turn back doing the same thing. Walking back to the car, and going home. Walking for another 35 minutes all the way back, which I think is long enough to spend walking. I just close my eyes. Walking normally, remembering everything around me and I just feel relieved again.

I hear the croaking echo of a red and black frog from steps away. Now I’m thinking of the trees bowing down to me because the leaves are all pointing at me. Everywhere I go, I can literally look with my eyes closed at mini waterfalls, which made ponds and little puddles. I opened my eyes, we’re already back, it felt like a few seconds though, but that’s what I thought. We’re leaving. I don’t want to go, I think this is my place, the place where I belong. Now I can only think of going back and having the same feeling that I never had before. I’m crying on the way back. I’m forgetting all about it. Then my mind went blank. I’m back home not even remembering the paradise I had in 1 hour and 10 minutes. More like 5 days and 23.5 hours.

I’m reading a book then bam! I just remembered it. Then I laid down on my bouncy bed thinking about it, I’m yawning like every 10 seconds then eventually I got to sleep.

House of Bricks!

Hello, you should probably know my name but if you don't then my name is Hayun and today I will be talking about the House of Bricks!
August 6th 2019, my hub (year 5&6) had house of Bricks coming over! House of Bricks is a day when people with Lego come over and give us challenges like, tallest tower wins or the bridge that holds the most books and pencil cases. It was a fun day and my favourite challenge was the bridge challenge because my group won! We held the record  (in our hub) 14 books and 3 pencil cases! It was a very enthusiastic day. Luckily we didn't get to do numeracy or literacy. My group also tied/won in another challenge. In that challenge we had to make a car out of Lego! Every rotation was 30-45 minutes long. Everyone in our hub had a great time and had enough with the Lego.

Question: What can you make out of Lego?

Maths Boards Term 3 2019

Term 3 2019, my hub is doing maths boards! Maths boards has 5 main sections. These sections is the way we show our working out, equation, a different way of solving the problem and we had to make a new word problem. On term we did maths board and I did 10 boards! Usually on maths boards we do multiplication, subtraction, addition or decimals. We had to choose a equation and had to put it on our boards:

I did the 123x2 equation:

Which was pretty easy so I made up my own question so I can actually challenge myself:

This took a pretty long time to figure out but I found the right answer!

Question: What equation would you use to do a maths board?
